Flight to Sapporo

A winter's tale in the land of the rising sun

Booking a flight to Sapporo is the promise of a snowy and sporty holiday

The essential

In the land of winter festivals

Japan has hosted the Winter Olympics twice - 1972 in Sapporo and 1998 in Nagano and is now rightly famed for its ski resorts offering some of the best powder skiing in the world. Winter in Jpan is a season of traditional festivals and glittering modern celebrations of ice and light. Every year in early February, the Sapporo Winter festival is staged on three sites, Odori Susukino and Tsu Dome. Over two million visitors flock to gaze at the monumental snow and ice sculptures, beautifully illuminated at night, which spread over one and a half kilometres in Odori Park.

Sapporo, the snow queen
Sapporo, sparkling and powdery
The capital of the province of Hokkaido is also the capital of snow! With your plane ticket to Sapporo, you will very likely find yourself arriving in a beautiful flurry of snowflakes; the city is under a blanket of snow for more than a third of the year. Ice statues decorate the streets during the magical Sapporo Snow Festival, which brings more than two million visitors to the city from all around the world. If you miss the festival itself, visit the Sapporo Yuki Matsuri Museum, which celebrates the icy creativity at the snow festival all year round.
Sapporo, youthful and natural
In a land of traditions that go back many thousands of years, the fifth largest city in Japan is comparatively youthful, it was founded only in the late 19th century. Book flights to Sapporo and prepare to explore a dynamic city that's well suited to modern life and which is at one with nature. Climb up to the top of Mount Moiwa and marvel at its 360° view which takes in Ishikari Bay: at dusk the city twinkles, and romance is in the air. An audacious symbol of the city, Moerenuma Park designed by Isamu Noguchi brings together nature, design and ecology, in a space of over 188 hectares.
Sapporo, delicious and generous
You've earned a treat and Sapporo certainly has a gourmet offering to make your mouth water. Take advantage of our Sapporo travel deals and go for a stroll around Nijo Market. The stalls here are piled high with fresh local and seasonal produce such as Shanghai hairy crab, and Shiroi Koibito, a buttery sandwich biscuit with a white chocolate filling. These famous biscuits have their own museum within the factory of the same name. There are also many artisan beers that have been made in the region for over two centuries; discover more about them at the Sapporo Beer Museum. In Hokkaido, food and drink is a major part of the local culture, so make sure you're hungry when you step off the plane for your holiday in Sapporo!
